Speed Illustration video
I let the screen recorder run in the background as i plowed my way through 6 hours and 1000+ layers in Photoshop. I’ve thrown together a neat little video speeding up the process. Check it out above. I find these speed illustration videos quite fun, it seems almost surreal when i finally stitch it together.
Why a Photoshoot?
As a play on the marketing analogy i illustrated the above mentioned article with a ‘Behind the Scenes Photoshoot’ look as a cover image. I found it a fitting metaphor for the very practical and hands-on advice on marketing i was dishing out. I liked the idea of looking into the camera and seeing the lighting equipment, a sort of reverse scenario of what you’d usually see.
If you haven’t already, go read and comment on my article “How to Market Your Mobile Application” over at Smashing Magazine. It’s a great read for any aspiring marketer, developer & designer or, more commonly these days, a healthy mix of the above.

Awesome video! By the way, where did you buy that teamug?
How did you get started in design? Any advice?
Incredible talent Michael. What did you use to record the screen? I have used ishwou before but it slows down the computer a bit.
The manual vector drawing of the camera seems to have taken the most amount of time, how challenging was that?
Looking forward to seeing more.
I really enjoyed the video and wallpaper. What screen recorder did you use?
Just amazing
Great job !
@Andree Teamug is from China.
@Bruno @Jennifer I use a piece of mac software called ‘Screenium’ to record my screen. There’s a few others out there, but i’ve found screenium to be pretty stable and not that resource heavy.
@Bruno Tracing images and creating manual vectors is always a tiresome job - you have to be really diligent when replicating shapes and curves, simplifying where it needs to be simplified etc. It’s just one of those tasks where you switch off the brain and get to work with the pen tool. In the end, it’s really rewarding though as you can use and reuse those elements in other designs ( check http://flysleepy.com for another look at the camera)
@John Costa That’s a long and adventurous story that i’ll save for another time
You are brilliant.
Fantastic job!!
