Since early last year i’ve been working with legendary developer @williwu on creating our very own iPhone development studio under the rocking brand of Robocat. Outside is our first ambitious app, and it’s available now!

As some of you might now, these past 8 months we’ve been hard at work on Outside, a new spin on the weather forecasting app that hopefully will blow your mind. I think you can tell that we’ve had high ambitions from the get-go. There’s some long nights and a lot of caffeine intake involved in the development of what we believe to be the best and most fun to use weather application out there. As of early this morning, Outside finally hit app stores worldwide - and we can’t wait for you to try it out.

Push Notifications

Not only is Outside a pretty weather forecasting app, it has a powerful custom push notification build right into it. You can setup and receive alerts when the temperature drops below or above a certain point - there’s rain notifications for when you need to remember that umbrella, and UV notifications for Sunscreen.

The notifications engine really adds a whole new custom level to the idea of weather forecasting, and we’ve gone to great extends to make the whole experience as smooth and enjoyable as possible.

Outside has Push Notifications!

Outside has an awesome custom notification engine build right in!

Unique Interface

I’ve drawn up a huge collection of weather situations, that all comes to life through the window in Outside. This really makes looking at the forecast or current weather a fun discovery, as you swipe through the misty fogs, snowy days and bright sparkling sunshine.

Outside has a unique interface!

Alot of care went into making outside visually pleasing and exciting.

Check out the promo video we did, to get an idea of the app in action:

At a later date i’m going to go more in-depth with the whole design process and give you some fun behind-the-scenes looks, but for now just know that Outside is available in the App store. You can read a lot more about it over at outsideapp.com and also swing by robocatapps.com to see our brand new company website.

Thank you!

Your support, comments and anticipation of this app has really motivated us from the early days. Thanks a lot! If you buy Outside, tell a friend or tweet it to your followers. Also remember to rate and review the app as it means a lot to us.

Outstanding. I must say im proud to be danish when an App like this hits the iTunes store. I bought it without wathching any reviews or whatsoever, and im amazed. I simply love the design, the backend of the app and so on. I will be following you guys in the future for hopefully more great apps that actually are worth buying!

Damn what I would give to have your skills in designing. Could you maybe tell me how you started? Is it something you are born with, or have you just learned it on your own? Whats your secret?! :)

    Merry christmas!

    Best Regards

    Malte

    @Jason Wendell

You might wonder why you have to pay for a ’subscription’ to our weather notifications. Well, it’s pretty simple; By including the awesome notification engine we also had to factor in paying for the servers monitoring your notifications. The only way to make something like this feasible was to introduce a payment system. We hope you enjoy the service enough to support it with your subscription. If you’re not interested in the notifications part, you can still use the rest of the app when your subscription ends.

Just read about Outside on Techcrunch and then came here to check out the blog. I’m sold already! :) The app is downloading on my iPhone as we speak. (I do hope though that my home country - Jordan - is covered by the forecast.)

I initially dismissed your app after seeing it on Techcrunch because I didn’t think that was the place for them to Promote paid iphone apps. But I gave it a shot anyways after seeing the video and I have to say that this is one of the best designed iphone apps out there! I love apps that become fun and addictive to use because of the simplistic design :)

You guys should focus on making a real Tweetie killer next! Twitterrific could have been the contender with the best UI and twitter app but they seemed to be more focused on selling a plush version of their mascot moreso than coming out with essential updates to keep up with the competition.

The app looks cool and I want to buy it

    but…

I have to agree with Jason. I think the subscription cost will hinder this app. I see your justification and understand to some degree. There are many apps out there though that use push notifications and they only charge for the price of the app. Nobody likes recurring charges. Why not charge more for the app’s initial price? I would gladly pay a one time 5.99 fee or possibly more if I knew it was one time. I’d like to see an “unlimited” fee possibly.

On the design, I’m not a fan of the windows. There should be an option to remove the windows. Otherwise cool app.
